Handball is a popular sport in Northern Europe. The question is why is it not more popular. Like most other minor sports it is difficult to get exposure because they are indeed minor sports and are swamped by the media exposure given to major sports especially in North America.

a popular reason among handball fans why it didn't take of in North America: the rules are quite complicated and it's fast paced. If you come up with a team ball game in the late 1800s in central Europe and Scandinavia, then you're competing against lots of recently established team ball games in the UK and US.

In fact, depending on how you want to define a sport’s popularity, Team Handball is down in the pecking order in the rest of the world as well. An oft-quoted comment is that Team Handball is the world’s second most popular sport after, of course, soccer. I’m not the first person to see that quote and think, “Oh really.”.

Handball is a popular Olympic sport which is particularly prominent in Germany and Scandinavia, but it has never really taken off in North America. The sport has elements of soccer and basketball, seeing teams of 6 players attempt to throw a ball into a net from outside the goalie area, and they can advance through both dribbling and passing.

Why Racquetball Is Not Popular. Racquetball reached peak popularity from its inception in the 1950s until the 1980s. This was largely responsible due to the founder’s promotion of the sport as well as the increased interest in fitness in the 1970s. Because of this, demand increased for equipment, and racquet clubs began to form.
