What is clear enough is that many are made of LI-900, a material which is said to be a sponge of silicon dioxide in 94% air, and which by all accounts is fragile - fragile enough to break by hand. There would seem therefore to be a major technical issue in trying to keep a single continuous layer, and if they have to have seams, why not break them at a preset pre- tested position, i.e. a tile boundary?
